“A slack-jawed southerner, raised on the salt of the Atlantic foam,
by a shark’s tooth hunter and a myth-maker.”
Tonya Lee is not mediocre.
An instructor of design at The Art Institute of York – Pennsylvania, Lee received a BFA in Painting and a BA in Art History from the University of North Florida before receiving a MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Lee’s strong but subtle aesthetic, modern sensibility and dedication to design are evident through a brilliant exploitation of color and texture. Works of constant contradiction, Lee utilizes “intentional oppositions to avoid concrete meaning, in order to prevent clear narrative for the viewer.”
The exhibit features a new series of paintings and wallpaper, embracing Lee’s fascination with alternative materials.
